DOUBLE REDUCTION

ELECON Double Reduction Worm Gear Units are constructed using two single reduction worm gear units. The primary worm gear unit is specially designed to mount integrally on a standard single worm gear unit which forms the second stage. The complete gear unit becomes compact and rigid in arrangement for slow-moving machinery. A wide range of ratios from 75:1 to 4900:1 is available. These gear units are particularly suitable for high torque slow-speed drives. Worm gearing conforms to BS-721.

Worm speed reduction gear unit is the result of more than thirty years of continuous efforts in development and refinement by ELECON ENGINEERING CO., India’s most experienced organization in gear transmission engineering.

Elecon single reduction gear units are the result of many years of experience. Completely re-designed gear case with liberal ribbing increases heat dissipating area, streamlined sump carrying more oil and larger capacity of fan enhances the thermal rating of the gearbox. All this means that the continuous load carrying capacity is increased without a substantial rise in temperature. No more opening of gearbox for hand changing, just replace the fan and fan cowl from one end to other ends of the worm shaft.

Features

A combination of present-day concepts, analytical calculations with the help of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) carried out on single part use of very latest CNC machine tools plus systematic checks on materials and workmanship, gives this series of gearboxes a marked degree of reliability.

Single piece universal casing having flanges top and bottom side and also provision for a supporting flange makes it possible to have the universal mounting positions for gearboxes such as under driven, overdriven, and vertical. The internal components are, therefore, interchangeable for all the mounting positions.

Quick change of mounting positions from under-driven to overdriven and vice versa merely by putting the unit upside down and replacing the positions of drain plug, breather plug, and oil level indicator.

Comprehensive maintenance of stock and faster delivery can be achieved due to the adoption of interchangeable principles. Robust compact and streamlined design with ample thermal capacities.

FLEXIBLE COUPLING

The flexible coupling is a cushioned drive type, transmitting the torque through rubber bushes which have an excellent capacity to absorb shocks. Flexible couplings transmit torque from one shaft to another and are particularly useful in cases where limited misalignment of the shaft is unavoidable.

Elecon Elflex flexible couplings are cushioned drive type, transmitting the torque through rubber bushes which have an excellent capacity to absorb shocks. The flanges are cast iron and are suitable for speeds up to the maximum limits as mentioned below.

The quality of rubber used for bushes is of a special type that remains unaffected by water, dust, and atmospheric conditions.

FLUID COUPLING

Fluid Coupling is Ideally suitable for a smooth and jerk less start and also acts as an energy saver. When the fluid coupling is filled with oil to the appropriate level and the motor is switched on, oil in the passages between the vanes of the impeller is accelerated radially outwards gaining energy all the time until it reaches the maximum circuit diameter. The oil then passes from the impeller to the runner in which it is forced to move inwards between the vanes and as its radial velocity falls energy is transferred to the runner and output shaft. Because the oil passes directly from the impeller to the runner, (there is no reaction member, as in a torque converter), the efficiency is high, with full load slips of between 2 and 5 % being achieved in practice and depending on the application and size selection.

Wind age and oil circulation losses are negligible therefore efficiency equals 100% slip %. Should an overload occur the fluid coupling will stall, i.e. slip 100 % at a torque value determined by the initial oil filling level. Thus motor and machine are both protected.

PERFORMANCE

The level of performance achieved by Fluid Coupling is governed mainly by the design of its working circuit which includes the shape of the circuit, the number of vanes in the circuit, the vanes placement, etc. The working circuit developed by Elecon is out of the number of years of experience in the field and is vital in the performance of fluid coupling. Elecon Fluid couplings are very rugged in construction, simple in design, and reliable in operation.

REDUCED STARTING CURRENT

When Elecon fluid coupling is connected to the drive system it allows the motor to start practically at no load. This results in reduced starting current enabling quick start and acceleration of the drive motor.

SOFT START

It gives a gradual start to driven equipment and thus provides smooth and shockless transmission.

LOW MAINTENANCE COST

Driving and driven types of equipment suffer less wear and tear and thus there is a reduction in electrical and mechanical maintenance costs.

PROTECTION TO MOTOR AND MACHINE

In case of overload, accidental jamming, the transmission torque is limited by the fluid coupling and thereby providing protection to the electric motor and the connected machine. In case of an extended jamming period, fusible plug blows off will empty the fluid coupling thereby disconnecting the output from the input, and protecting both driving and driven equipment. To prevent the loss of oil and to have an additional safety device, the thermal trig switch can be provided when demanded in addition to the fusible plug.
